Denver Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike could be facing up to two years in prison following a complaint filed in the Iowa District Court for Story County.

The complaint alleges that Uwazurike was involved in illegal sports betting on games involving both his former college team, Iowa State, and his current NFL team, the Denver Broncos.

The report, filed by TheAthletic’s Nick Kosmider and Scott Dochterman, reveals shocking details about the extent of Uwazurike’s alleged gambling activities.

According to the complaint, 25-year-old Uwazurike has been charged with tampering with records in connection with the illicit wagers.

Specifically, he is accused of betting on two Iowa State games in which he participated as a player and five Broncos games, totaling 32 bets.

One of these bets was on a Week 15 home game against the Cardinals, in which Uwazurike himself played.

The charge of tampering with records stems from Uwazurike’s alleged efforts to conceal his identity and deceive authorities by falsifying personal electronic sports wagering records.

The period covered by the complaint spans from February 7, 2021, to July 10, 2022, during which the accused player reportedly participated in the illicit gambling activities.

Tampering with records is classified as an aggravated misdemeanor in the state of Iowa, carrying a maximum punishment of up to two years in prison.

If convicted, Uwazurike could face significant time behind bars, in addition to potential damage to his professional football career.

Uwazurike’s has already been indefinitely suspended by the league for his involvement in betting on NFL games.
