A scary situation unfolded during a college baseball game between Missouri State and Louisiana Monroe on Friday night. A Bears pitcher was struck in the head by a comeback line drive, sending him tumbling to the pitcher’s mound clay.
After a few moments, he was able to get back to his feet with the help of the training staff. He had the best reaction to finding out what transpired after taking that heater to the dome.
Righty Garrett Ferguson entered the matchup in a relief appearance late in the action as Missouri State looked to close out a season-opening victory. Called upon in the sixth inning, he would do his job in helping the Bears hold onto a lead.
With the reliever on the mound, viewers saw the oddest play of the game.
A ULM batter belted a Ferguson delivery back up the middle. The ball ricocheted off of the pitcher’s forehead, bouncing over to the second baseman who then completed an inning-ending double play.
The initial scene was one of fright as bystanders watched Ferguson fall to the ground with an assumed head injury. Shortly thereafter, though, the mood would flip completely.
After being told that his teammates were able to turn two and successfully end a ULM threat, Ferguson erupted with excitement.
“No way,” you can see him utter in a state of absolute shock before celebrating on his way back to the dugout.

Which resulted in a 1-4 double play.
