I’m sure a lot of us think that being a caddy on the PGA Tour would be quite an easy gig. After all, it’s just carrying clubs for 18 holes, helping to read a few putts, and doing other small jobs for the player for roughly 10% of their winnings, right?
It’s a lot harder than that. And, after PGA Tour player C.T. Pan’s caddy was injured during the final round of the RBC Canadian Open on Sunday, one lucky (or unlucky) fan found out just how tough it is.
C.T. Pan’s caddy, the longtime PGA Tour caddy Fluff Cowan, slipped coming down the hill on the 3rd hole at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, this year’s host of the RBC Canadian Open. With Cowan unable to finish out the round, Pan looked to the gallery for a volunteer for a caddy, something completely within the rules.
And, someone stepped up! Problem solved, right?
C.T. Pan’s caddie, the legend Mike “Fluff” Cowan slipped coming down the hill on the 3rd hole and was unable to continue caddying. A random fan was asked to carry his clubs the rest of the day.

Sadly, the problem was not solved. The first volunteer was not exactly a match made in caddy heaven for C.T. Pan, as he made a bogey 6 on the next hole, and he needed a new caddy.

That guy lasted a little longer. It seems like he did an okay job, but Pan found an even better solution.

Ok, that seems like the problem is likely solved the best that it can be. And, with reports that Fluff Cowan is okay, it seems like this could be a short-term absence for the player-caddy duo.
All of the upheaval isn’t distracting C.T. Pan too much. He’s even par on the day through 11 holes, and is -2 for the tournament, good for T45.
