Incredible Olympic Gold Medals Have Literal Pieces Of The Eiffel Tower Embedded In Them

2024 Paris Olympic Gold Medal with Eiffel Tower piece embedded

Winning an Olympic gold medal is an incredible feat regardless of where you do it or in what sport.

But for those lucky enough to take home gold (or any medal) in Paris, it’ll be extra special.

That’s because the 2024 medals have a piece of iron removed from original Eiffel Tower embedded in the center. And that iron is engraved with “Paris 2024” as well as the logo of the 2024 Olympic games.

Chaumet, a French luxury jewelry and watch brand which is owned by Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton, designed the Olympic medals.

The pieces of the Eiffel Tower are in the shape of a hexagon, which roughly represents the shape of France. The country colloquially goes by the nickname “L’hexagone.”

On the six edges of the hexagon are claw settings. The shape is similar to those found in the rivets on the Eiffel Tower.

The hexagon is surrounded by what looks like several beams of light. Paris is often referred to as the “city of light.”

In total, Around 5,804 medals were developed for Paris 2024, per multiple reports. Approximately 2,600 medals were created for the Olympics and a further 2,400 for the Paralympics.

But did you know that Olympic gold medals also weigh more than their silver and bronze counterparts?

The gold medal weighs 1.17 pounds. The silver medal, by comparison, weighs 1.16 pounds while the bronze is one pound.

Winning a gold medal is cool. Winning an Olympic gold medal is very cool. But winning an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 games in Paris? That might just be the coolest thing imaginable.
