Poker pro Allen Kessler is the proud owner of 4 World Series of Poker Circuit rings and has $2.3 million in WSOP cashes but he jus won an absolute fortune in the slot machines after hitting a $1.210 million jackpot on an Aristocrat gaming slot.
Allen Kessler is extremely well known within the poker community and his fame has risen in recent years after Daniel Negreanu devoted a daily ‘what’s bothering Allen today?’ feature in Negreanu’s popular YouTube vlog where Kessler sounds off on whatever it was annoying him at that time, from the food/concessions to the seats at the table and really everything under the sun at the WSOP.
Announcing the world that he’d won the $1.2+ million slot machines jackpot, Allen joked about his surliness and tagged fellow poker pro Daniel Negreanu in a picture of the jackpot:
Nothing is bothering me today @RealKidPoker ! pic.twitter.com/KHqUS3eAot

After winning $1.2+ million on a slot machine you’d think Allen Kessler would be the happiest he’s been in years, right? After all, he only won just over $30K at the 2024 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. But here’s Kessler refusing to smile with the big ol’ check in his hand:
For those of you who said i was bluffing, here is the big check!
Thanks @itsvegasmatt for the idea!

As it turns out, Allen Kessler did find something to be bothered about and I believe he has a legitimate gripe here. Kessler shared this photo of a small placard on the slot machine:
It looks like I have to take the annuity or a "discounted" lump sum. pic.twitter.com/Rp2Tib0jHX

For those who can’t quite make that out, it reads “Jackpot prizes of $500,000 or greater will be paid by Aristocrat in periodic payments over 20 years or a discounted lump sum upon proper jackpot and winner verification.” Vegas takes up to 31% out in taxes immediately (sometimes only 28%…). To pay out the taxes and then lose a huge chunk to a reduced jackpot has to sting, a little.
