Florida Fishermen Blown Away After Catching (And Releasing) A Great White Shark On The Beach

For the second time in as many months, beach fishermen in Florida have reeled in a great white shark. It happened last month in Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island and again this month with the boys at RunForTheReels caught a great white shark.

It should go without saying but I’ll spell it out anyway, the challenges of catching a great white shark from the beach are immense. For starters, getting the bait out deep enough to reach a great white shark in Florida requires the use of a kayak or a drone so already special equipment is needed beyond just traditional fishing gear. Once battling the shark, it is borderline impossible to get a solid footing while standing on the beach. Digging your heels down deep as possible into the sand works up to the point it doesn’t and the sand begins to loosen.

Then what do you do once your reel in the shark? Do you just walk into the water with a charged up great white shark?! The release is as complicated of a process as the battle but the Run For The Reels guys pulled this off and recently shared videos of their catch:

They also shared these photographs below of the great white shark. This is officially the second one ever caught from a beach in Florida.

It is absolutely wild that up until last month a great white had never been caught from a beach on Florida’s East Coast and now it has been done twice in two months. Unreal.

These dudes are no strangers to catching huge sharks from the beach. Go smash that ‘follow’ button on Instagram or ‘subscribe’ on YouTube here in order to see the massive tiger sharks and other species they’ve caught in the past.
