NFL employees are beginning to speak out on Kendrick Lamar’s controversial Super Bowl halftime show. After Lamar was named to perform the show in New Orleans, Lil Wayne said he was “hurt” for not being chosen to lead the show in his hometown.
“I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot,” said Wayne.
The U.S. Sun spoke to an NFL employee who believes a “mistake was made” in choosing Lamar as the Super Bowl halftime show performer.
“A mistake was made, and we regret the choice that was made,” an NFL employee told The U.S. Sun.
“Lil Wayne should have been the first option, as he is from New Orleans, and we know that there was a clear motivation for him and his side to do a unique show in his town.”
A second NFL employee told the U.S. Sun that Wayne should have been chosen over Lamar to perform the halftime show.
“I mean, New Orleans is the city of Lil Wayne, He did a lot and it would have been fantastic to have him do the halftime show and show his love, and feel the love, from his hometown. “The choice was clearly the wrong one, and now the goal is to not make the same mistake from now on.”
Last week, Skip Bayless revealed that the NFL had sent Lil Wayne a letter of apology after he was not named the Super Bowl halftime show performer in his hometown of New Orleans.
“At least the NFL sent Wayne a letter of apology…a letter thanking him for years of supporting the league, but supporting and promoting the NFL in general which he has”
Despite the backlash, Lamar’s performance was the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show of all-time, with 133.5 million viewers tuning in.
