NASCAR star Kyle Larson was lucky to walk away unharmed on Saturday night after a terrifying crash in the World of Outlaws sprint car race in Plymouth, Wisconsin. Larson was running second at the time when a mechanical failure sent his car hurtling end over end.
“It just kind of launched me, and I was along for the ride,” Larson said shortly after climbing out of the car. “Bummer, but I felt really good pacing Rico [Abreu] there and just finally catching traffic and get racing there. Glad I’m OK, big hit but all-in-all, feel fine.”

World Of Outlaws Crash Continues Bad Run Of Races For NASCAR Star Kyle Larson
The incident continues a rough stretch of races for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion. The 32-year-old attempted the legendary Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 double in late May. But he crashed out of both races. Larson then came under fire after footage emerged of him mocking IndyCar star Scott McLaughlin after McLaughlin’s crash prior to the start of the Indy 500.
“I felt really bad even before I knew that it hit the internet. I was frustrated because the rain was so light and the delay of the track drying when it was already dry – it took whatever it was, 45 minutes. And then we’re coming to get lights out to go green and I see somebody crash. Then I just reacted with more frustration. And yeah, I shouldn’t have done that,” Larson said afterward.
He then went out and struggled in the following week’s NASCAR Cup Series race in Nashville, qualifying deep in the pack before eventually rebounding to finish in the top 10. Larson will hope the string of bad luck is behind him when he starts Sunday’s Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway, where he has three prior victories.
