A high school football coach in Alabama claims (at least) one of his opponents stole practice film via Hudl. However, Mark Freeman did not name any names and took full accountability for the failures of the Thompson Warriors program that contributed to this alleged scandal.
They did not do a good enough job policing their account.
Plus, this is high school football we’re talking about. You can know what your opponent is about to do but you still have to stop it.
Thompson made the Alabama high school football playoffs.
Thompson High School is located in Alabaster, Alabama, about 30 miles south of Birmingham. It enrolls approximately 2,100 students in grades 9-12.
The Warriors compete on the Division-7A level of high School football within the state. They are ranked as the No. 3 team in Alabama as the defending champions and the No. 62 team in the entire country.
Thompson finished the regular season at 7-3 with only one district loss to Hoover by three. Its other two losses were to Georgia powerhouse Grayson by one in overtime and to Clay-Chalkville, the undefeated top-ranked program in Alabama.
As a result, the Warriors will have home field advantage for the first few rounds of the playoffs. They will get things going with a home game against Carver on Friday.
The Warriors must protect their practice film on Hudl!
Dutch Fork High School football coach Tom Knotts put his rival on blast in the state of South Carolina on Friday. He accused Irmo of stealing his team’s practice tape through the unauthorized use of Hudl.
Hudl is a sports technology software used to review video footage of a game or practice. Coaches can upload film of their upcoming opponent for their players to review throughout the week. They can also upload film of their own practices to use as a teaching moment.
Thompson head coach Mark Freeman took to social media with some thoughts of his own after he caught word of the shenanigans in South Carolina. The same thing happened to him.
“I have been contacted by Hudl and told another school watched 11 hours of our practices!”
Somebody with access to his team’s video archive leaked the information to another program. Freeman did not name any names.
“Mad parents, ex coaches, admin have to be immediately deleted! Coaches will download when they know they are gone! Real issue!”
Freeman also took accountability for his role in the leak.
“We did not delete fast enough it’s on us ! But be careful!! Would suggest not sharing practice! Can’t delete practice everyday we teach off of it! To each their own it’s how we do it!“
This seems to be a real issue for high school football across the country. Teams are getting into their opponent’s Hudl accounts and watching their practice film before the game.
Thompson will hope Carver did not get access before the playoffs!
