Oregon Defensive Back Suddenly Quits On Team Without Warning By Refusing To Show Up To Practice

Dakoda Fields Oregon Quit Transfer Football

Dakoda Fields played in only three college football games for the Oregon Ducks. And then he quit without warning.

Nobody, including head coach Dan Lanning, knew of his sudden departure in advance.

This is the current reality of college football! Players who do not get what they want are able to leave for greener pastures at any point in time and they do not have to inform anybody else of their decision.

Who is Dakoda Fields?

At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Fields was ranked as the No. 11 cornerback in the recruiting Class of 2024 as a four-star prospect. He committed to Oregon out of Junipero Serra High School in California over offers from USC, Alabama, LSU, Texas, Colorado, Ohio State, Georgia and others.

However, Fields missed his entire freshman season with the Ducks due to an injury and took a redshirt.

This year was supposed to be a breakout year for the defensive back. He added ~15 pounds to his frame during the offseason with the intent to crack the starting lineup.

That did not happen.

Fields played sparingly during the first three games of the season. He recorded only one tackle (assist) against Montana State in Week 1. That was it.

And then he took a major step back. Not only did Dakoda Fields fail to appear against Oregon State, Penn State, Indiana, Rutgers and Wisconsin, the redshirt freshman did not even travel to New Jersey.

Why did he quit?

The answer to this question likely stems from a lack of playing time but we do not know for sure. Dakoda Fields did not provide a reason for his decision.

In fact, he did not even announce his decision to leave Oregon in the first place. He simply did not show up for practice on Wednesday. Nobody knew the reason. Not even Lanning.

“He didn’t come to work today,” the head coach said. “We haven’t talked to Dakoda. I guess that’s the way it goes nowadays.”

Any references to the program were removed from his social media profiles by Wednesday evening and that was that. Fields quit on the Ducks with only a few weeks left in the regular season.

He intends to transfer when the portal opens in December. There will surely be a lot of interest.

However, the way in which Dakoda Fields decided to leave the Oregon program might be considered a red flag for any potential suitors. How do they know he won’t ghost them in the same way?
