Flau’jae Johnson got to return home over the weekend (kinda) as LSU played at Georgia Southern. It was a really special moment for one of the top players in women’s college basketball.
Unfortunately, thickheaded South Carolina fans are trying to spoil her homecoming.
A small subset of the Gamecocks’ fanbase questions why Johnson was so supportive of her late father’s music being played during the college hoops game on Sunday after she was so against it last season. They cannot understand the nuance.
Flau’jae Johnson was born in Savannah, Georgia.
Credit to Kim Mulkey. Ever since she arrived to LSU, she makes sure to play one non-conference road game near where one of her players grew up.
This year was Georgia Southern. The campus in Statesboro is less than an hour from Johnson’s place of birth, Savannah. It was the closest she played to home in her entire career.
Johnson scored 19 points with six assists and four rebounds in a dominant victory for the Bayou Bengals.

However, the final score did not matter. It was a joyous occasion, win or lose.

The true fourth-year senior was smiling the whole game. Even on turnovers.

The entire community showed out to support Flau’jae Johnson.

Super cool. Shoutout to Mulkey and the Eagles for making it happen.
South Carolina fans missed the mark.
Flau’jae’s father, Jason Johnson, is best known by the moniker ‘Camoflauge.’ The Georgia-based rapper was shot dead outside of a recording studio in Savannah at the young age of 21 years old in 2003. He is best known for his songs ‘Laying My Stunt Down’ and ‘Cut Friends.’
Flau’jae Johnson frequently talks about the role her late father has played in her life over these last 22 years. She was only a few months old when he was murdered and wants to honor his legacy as a rapper in her own right.
Back in January, the in-stadium D.J. at South Carolina played Camoflauge’s music after the Gamecocks beat the Tigers. Flau’jae immediately called her out for the blatant disrespect after the game.
“I’ll take my L on the chin, but this just nasty behavior. Nun funny bout that,” she wrote on X.
The D.J. was suspended by South Carolina. The university issued an apology.
Georgia Southern played Camoflauge’s music on Sunday. Flau’jae and the crowd sang along.

Gamecocks fans could not comprehend the dichotomy between these two scenarios.
“So it’s OK when someone else plays her Dad’s song, but SC DJ plays the song that she did all season, but it’s offensive. It cost the DJ her job,” wrote @gamecockcash.
“Soooo it’s not disrespectful cause they’re winning
,” chimed @MrsJBella.
“So is the DJ going to get suspended or that only goes against SC!?,” said @HurtsSc4life.
One was played out of disrespect. One was played out of respect. It’s different.
