South Dakota State offensive lineman Quinten Christensen was not allowed to complete the final game of the 2025 college football regular season. He was ejected for “making contact with an official” by a self-important referee who so badly wanted to exert his authority.
It was pathetic.
The college football official decided to make a statement. The player did nothing wrong.
Who is Quinten Christensen?
Christensen starts on the offensive line for the Jackrabbits as a redshirt junior. He split time at tight end as a redshirt freshman in 2023 as an aid in the run game before the coaching staff moved him full-time to left tackle in 2024. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman started all 15 games last season.
Former South Dakota State head coach Jimmy Rogers left for the same job at Washington State during the college football offseason. Quinten Christensen chose not to enter the transfer portal.
His decision to stay with the program made him an instant fan favorite. He is beloved in Brookings.
Christensen started every game for the Jackrabbits again this season. They finished the regular season at 8-4, right on the bubble of the FCS Playoffs. I would guess they get in. We’ll see.
If South Dakota State does not make the postseason, its left tackle had his season end early. It might also be the end of his career if he does not choose to return for his fifth year of eligibility. We’ll see.
Why was the South Dakota State football player ejected?
The Jackrabbits faced 4th-and-goal from the two-yard-line with eight minutes left in the third quarter. They were stopped short for a turnover on downs.
Things got chippy after the play. Multiple college football players on North Dakota and South Dakota State had to be separated before the situation escalated to a brawl. It was just a kerfuffle. No big deal.
However, an official who tried to deescalate the skirmish stepped in front of Quinten Christensen and pushed him out of the way as if he was at fault for what happened. Christensen pointed back at the Fighting Hawks to plead his case. In doing so, his hand came close to the referee’s face.
The official looked him directly in the eyes and threw a flag in the most sassy way possible.
This is the “contact with an official” that got Quinten Christensen ejected.

That’s brutal. pic.twitter.com/5Tt0xy9PA2
South Dakota State was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Christensen was ejected from the contest for “making contact with an official” even though the official made contact with him.
It was bogus.
Fortunately, the Jackrabbits went on to win. Their left tackle remained in good spirits.
He did nothing wrong. The college football official let his ego get in the way of impartiality and objectivity. Super lame.
