Kim Mulkey Lied About Lane Kiffin To Attack Fake News Media Over ESPN Interview At Sugar Bowl

Kim Mulkey had not met Lane Kiffin prior to the women’s college basketball game at LSU on New Year’s Day. They walked out of the tunnel together, hand-in-hand.

It was a scene that looked like it belonged in The Righteous Gemstones.

This was after the college football coach chose not to attend the Sugar Bowl. The women’s basketball coach later questioned how he would be able to do both things, telling people not to trust the media.

Lane Kiffin skipped the Sugar Bowl for LSU women’s basketball.

It was widely reported on New Year’s Eve that Kiffin was planning to attend Ole Miss’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against Georgia at the Superdome in New Orleans. He was going to sit in the executive suite alongside Jeff Landry. He even wanted to be featured on the ESPN broadcast.

Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports was the first person to break the news. Chris Low later confirmed.

This was not some willy-nilly report from some random guy on X. This wasn’t some one-off report from a random dude in Baton Rouge. It was legitimate, well-sourced reporting. I was also able to corroborate the reports through sources both at the Sugar Bowl and at ESPN. The information was accurate.

Lane Kiffin wanted to attend the Sugar Bowl with the governor of Louisiana and wanted to do a live hit from the broadcast booth during the game. Or, at the very least, he wanted everybody to know that he might.

Maybe he was never going to follow through. I don’t know! But the possibility was there.

To ESPN’s credit, the Worldwide Leader in Sports was not receptive to the idea of having Kiffin on the broadcast because — believe it or not — the game was not about him. He smartly decided not to attend.

I wonder if Lane Kiffin made the decision for himself after getting mocked on social media or if he was advised by the officials at LSU. Either way, the former head coach at Ole Miss was not at the Superdome as Pete Golding led the Rebels to their second-straight win in the College Football Playoff.

Kim Mulkey targeted the media.

As Ole Miss beat Georgia, fifth-ranked LSU women’s basketball lost at home to 11th-ranked Kentucky. Kim Mulkey introduced Lane Kiffin to the PMAC crowd prior to the game.

She led him out onto the court as if he was a war hero.

It was a scene straight out of The Righteous Gemstones.

After the game, which the Tigers lost, Mulkey spoke about her introduction to Kiffin. She also took aim at all of the reports about the Sugar Bowl— as if they were fake news. How could he attend the women’s basketball game at LSU and the Ole Miss football game in New Orleans at the same time?!

Although it was right on brand for Mulkey, her targeted attack of the media was bizarre. She claims things were twisted and turned.

They were not.

Kiffin wanted to sit with Landry at the Sugar Bowl and he wanted to to be featured on ESPN during the game. Whether it was a coincidence or not, he only changed his mind after ESPN said no. From what I understand, his decision to attend at the basketball game was a last-minute switch. And the switch was likely attached to his image.

And yet, Kim Mulkey wants it to be known just how tickled she was for the honorable Lane Kiffin to support his own school instead of stealing the shine from his former players at the Superdome.
