Three men from Georgia have been charged in South Florida for allegedly attempting to break into the home of Larsa Pippen. Pippen, an original cast member of the Bravo reality series The Real Housewives of Miami, is the ex-wife of former NBA star Scottie Pippen.
According to the Pinecrest Police Department (PDP), the three men broke multiple windows in Larsa Pippen’s Pinecrest, Florida, mansion, but did not gain entry to the home.
PDP reported that the men “fled from responding officers who arrived within minutes.” They reportedly crashed their vehicle into another car and then a fence, and then attempted to escape on foot during their getaway.
The Police Chief had to perform his first foot pursuit in 15 years
“I spot [one of the suspects] walking. He’s trying to walk away, out of the area,” Pinecrest Police Chief Jason Cohen told Local 10 News. “It’s just me and him. I get out of my car, I order him to the ground,” Cohen said. “I start running after him. He crosses Kendall Drive, into a house’s yard. He jumps the fence. I open the gate to the fence. I walk in. He then jumps into the back, which is the canal back there too, the Snapper Creek Canal. He jumps into the canal. When I get to the canal bank, he’s hanging on. If he didn’t jump into the canal, he probably had me.”
Larsa Pippen assisted in apprehending the burglary suspects
Pippen, 51, was reportedly not present in the home at the time of the attempted break-in. She was, however, able to observe the burglars remotely while an alarm alerted the authorities.
“She was giving us real-time information as the officers were responding,” Cohen told WSVN News. “When the officers approached the house, the getaway car was fleeing and went right past them.”
Surveillance footage showed one man standing close to another suspect who was attempting to enter the house through a door.
“With the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office and Coral Gables Police, the suspects were swiftly contained and apprehended,” the PDP wrote. “One subject was located by a MDSO K9, while another was captured by Pinecrest and Gables officers. The third suspect was apprehended by a Pinecrest supervisor as he attempted to run from the perimeter.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder that Pinecrest will not tolerate criminal activity,” the statement continued.
Charges, including attempted burglary, have been brought against all three men. They were detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on bonds ranging from $7,500 to $8,000.
