While several big names in the world of golf have come out in support of Tiger Woods following his latest scandal, six-time major winner Nick Faldo believes it’s time that people begin to hold Woods accountable.

Faldo, a three-time Masters and three-time British Open winner who spent 97 weeks at the world’s No. 1 golfer in the 1990s, told reporters that he has sympathy for Woods, but at some point, he needs to take more responsibility.

“There are two sides to this right now,” he said. “There’s one side, let’s care for Tiger, and then there’s got to be a responsibility and accountability side as well.”

“This is a serious thing and issue he’s done. The PGA Tour statement was so predictably weak. And you know how they show that, the Tour will look after him as they always have done.

“There has to be some accountability, forget about golf and everything.”

Nick Faldo Says Tiger Woods Has Caused All Of His Own Issues

Following his car crash and subsequent arrest on charges of driving under the influence, Woods pleaded not guilty, but announced that he was stepping away from the limelight, including a scheduled appearance (although likely not to compete) at the 2026 Masters, in order to seek treatment.

Faldo, who awarded Woods his first green jacket after the latter won The Masters in 1997 and spent nearly two decades as a commentator for CBS before retiring at the end of the 2022 PGA Tour season, says it’s time that people begin to expect a little more from the 15-time major champion.

“I feel sorry for Tiger. He’s living 24/7 in pain,” Faldo said. “I asked him that years ago, even before the LA accident [in 2021], but it’s all been self-inflicted. … I think something should be done and a little bit more seriously than waving him off to a tropical island and saying, ‘welcome back’ in three or four months.”

Faldo did not say exactly what he believes should happen to Woods. But it’s hard to argue with his logic. To this point, Woods has been treated largely with kid gloves, which has led to repeated incidents.

It’s hard to say whether a change of approach from the golf world would lead to a changed Tiger Woods. But you can’t blame Faldo, or anyone else, for wanting to try something different.
