The first trailer for Ebenezer, Johnny Depp’s first Hollywood movie since 2018, has been released. Ebenezer will hit theaters on November 13.
Johnny Depp last appeared in a mainstream Hollywood movie in 2018 (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), having fallen out of the business due to his legal issues with Amber Heard.
Since 2018, Depp has starred in just three movies, all of which were overseas productions: Waiting for the Barbarians (2019), Minamata (2020), and Jeanne du Barry (2023). He also directed and produced the 2024 film Modì, Three Days on the Wing of Madness.

In a meta reference to Depp’s real-life controversies, the trailer ends with Scrooge saying “It’s good to be back.” Ebenezer is directed by Ti West, the filmmaker behind X, Pearl, and MaXXXine.

In addition to Depp, the film also stars Rupert Grint, Andrea Riseborough, Sam Claflin, Daisy Ridley, Arthur Conti, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Charlie Murphy, with Tramell Tillman and Ian McKellen.
Depp and Heard were married from 2015 to 2016, divorcing after just over a year amid mutual allegations of domestic abuse. In 2018, Heard wrote a Washington Post op-ed describing herself as a public figure representing domestic abuse, without naming Depp directly, which led Depp to sue her for defamation in Virginia, claiming the op-ed implied he abused her and cost him acting work, including his role in Pirates of the Caribbean.
Heard countersued, alleging Depp’s team had defamed her by calling her allegations a hoax. The trial began in 2022 under massive media scrutiny and the jury eventually sided largely with Depp, awarding him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages (later reduced), while also awarding Heard $2 million on her countersuit.
