In a social media post on Monday, Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins stated that he did not grant authorization for his name, picture, or likeness “to be exploited by anybody.” He didn’t specify what he was talking about, but it soon became clear that the former NFL safety was referring to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) promoting immigration control by using a highlight video of him.
“I have respectfully not given permission to anyone other than those I currently do business with to use my NIL. Be Blessed!” Brian Dawkins wrote in the caption to a video.
“Hello, blessed people. Hello, blessed people. Alright, let’s be clear. Let’s be clear. I didn’t give permission for my name, image and likeness to be used by anybody, alright? By anybody, alright? Take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. Y’all be blessed,” Dawkins said with a smile in the video.
The Department of Homeland Security uploaded the Brian Dawkins video on X with the caption, “Our time has come,” in reaction to a word that a sizable migrant caravan was approaching the southern border of the United States.
The video montage used by the DHS features the former NFL player chanting to himself, “The time has come,” and showcases some of his most memorable on-field moments.
According to The Athletic, the NFL requested that the DHS remove the video on Monday, which was uploaded on Sunday night, and still up as of Tuesday morning.
According to a team source who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, the NFL requested that the video be removed because neither the Eagles nor the league granted permission for the footage to be utilized.

After a campaign spokesman utilized Beyonce’s song “Freedom” in an online video without permission, Beyonce’s representatives issued a cease-and-desist letter.
Following the Trump campaign’s use of the opening riff of “Seven Nation Army” in a video showing Donald Trump exiting an aircraft, the White Stripes filed a copyright lawsuit.
Isaac Hayes, Blue Oyster Cult, Kenny Loggins, and JMSN all also claimed they never authorized the use of their work at fundraising rallies, social media videos, and ad campaigns.
