Michael Douglas wants to die. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that is. Unfortunately, Disney won’t let him.

During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 82-year-old Oscar winner, who plays Hank Pym — the creator of the “Pym particles,” the substance that gives Ant-Man his powers — in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said he asked the studio to kill off his character early and was turned down.

Michael Douglas says Marvel refused to kill off his Hank Pym character even though he asked the studio to write him out of the MCU

“We did Ant-Man and Paul Rudd was a wonderful actor — a lovely group — but then you can’t get out of it,” Douglas said.

“I would have been killed off after the second one, but they wouldn’t let me,” he continued.

The famed Wall Street and Fatal Attraction star said he got involved with the MCU after he told his agent he wanted to try “one of those green screen movies to see what they’re like.”

“It’s hard acting, man,” Douglas said. “It’s coming at you here, this and that, you know.”

Douglas last appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and while his character made it out of the film alive, Douglas said he does not expect to return to the MCU. You are free now, Michael.

Douglas’ last feature film role came in 2025 when he had a starring role in Looking Through Water. His filmography currently has only one upcoming project listed — the drama film White Lies, which also stars Josh Hartnett, Ellen Barkin and Willem Dafoe, and will reunite him with Wall Street director Oliver Stone.
