Alex Rodriguez may know a lot about baseball (just ask him), but some of the things that come out of his mouth cause people to just scratch their heads.
Case in point: Rodriguez recently appeared on The Bret Boone Podcast to reminisce about their playing days, talk about the trade deadline and Shohei Ohtani, and A-Rod being a part owner of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves.
At one point during their discussion, Rodriguez and Boone got to talking about growing the game of baseball.
Boone brought up how disgraced former baseball star Barry Bonds was on the KayRod Cast on ESPN one night, opening the door for Rodriguez to shill for his buddy who, like him, is shrouded in steroid and PED accusations.
“I caught you guys one night and you had Barr, you had Bonds on,” Boone said to Rodriguez. Who’s, I played against him, you played, we all know, he was ridiculous how good he was, but I really loved that interview.
“It was real. Barry told it how it was. He told you he was the greatest, because he was.
“It was kind of like when I watched Jordan’s uh, you know, HBO special, yeah, The Last Dance.
“I’m like, he’s not arrogant, it’s the truth what he’s saying right now. When Barry speaks about hitting for that time frame in history, what he says is true.
“It’s like, I remember just being out there putting up pretty big numbers and watching Barry hit and go, ‘he’s so much better than me, it’s
ridiculous.’
“I loved that interview. When I had you on, I told Michael Kay the other day, I said I saw the Barry interview, it’s my favorite. So I want to have Barry on this program too.”
Rodiguez replied, “I’ll give a good recommendation. He’s a great interview. He’s a great friend, and again, he’s a very much underutilized asset that baseball needs to use more. I agree with you. He’s awesome.”
