Millions of people spend the week leading up to the start of the NCAA Tournament filling out a bracket that will almost inevitably be busted by the time the first round wraps up, but Larry David is not one of them.
When you consider Larry David has built his career on a foundation of a flippant disregard for social norms, I can’t necessarily say I’m shocked to learn he isn’t the kind of guy who spends hours poring over a March Madness bracket when the tourney rolls around each year.
However, it’s not like he’s a member of the “Sportsball” crowd defined by its inability to comprehend the appeal of athletic competitions. It’s not rare to see him rooting for the Knicks while sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden (where he also cheers for the Rangers), and he’s also a diehard Yankees fan responsible for giving the team a supporting role in Seinfeld.
The comedian graduated from the University of Maryland, but it doesn’t seem like has a similar passion for the Terrapins or college sports in general based on what he had to say when he sat down to chat with Rich Eisen on the day the 2024 NCAA Tournament kicked off.
During the conversation, Eisen asked David if he’d filled out a bracket, which led to the latter making an admission I think most people who did fill out a bracket could probably sympathize with.
Is Larry David locked into #MarchMadness? Does he believe in a deep #NewYorkForever playoff run? And don't you dare ask him if he knows the #NYR score:#NBA #NHL pic.twitter.com/tCzlVhvwp6

Here’s what he had to say:
“How much can I follow in sports? I’m supposed to know who’s on Drake? I mean this is crazy! Crazy!
Valparaiso? I know names on Valparaiso? This is insane. I don’t know anything! Maybe I’ll watch the semifinal but that’s it. What can I do? I’ve got the Rangers. I’ve got the Knicks. I can’t follow all these teams.
How do people do it? How do they do it? Who are they married to?”
The man has a point.
