The Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies battled in an intense NCAA softball Super Regional over the weekend with UT coming out on top against its hated rival. A series of high emotion, the loss in Saturday’s rubber match was deflating for Aggie players who were hit with the reality that their season had come to an official end.

One Longhorn fan attempted to mock the reactions of those on the losing end, posting an image of Texas A&M star Trinity Cannon crying after the game. A teammate quickly responded to the online jab, eviscerating the social media troll in support of her fellow Aggie.

The Lone Star State foes went head-to-head in a Super Regional matchup with an appearance in the College World Series on the line. After trading wins in the first two contests, the top-ranked Longhorns came out victorious in Game 3, 6-5.

After the game, Texas head coach Mike White complimented the Aggies on a series well played.

“If that’s a No. 16 team, I am dumbfounded. I’m not sure how that worked out.”

His take is one that many agreed with. The Aggies landed the 16th and final national seed in the NCAA Tournament, which some believed to be far too low.

Viewed as a legitimate College World Series threat, they were served the tall task of taking down the sport’s No. 1 team in order to book that ticket – and they almost succeeded!

After the one-run loss in the series finale, Texas A&M players were emotional. Star player Trinity Cannon was spotted crying after seeing her season come to a close, a moment Texas fans tried to turn into a viral moment.

Rylen Wiggins came to the defense of her Texas A&M softball teammate.

The post quickly landed a response from the Aggie infielder, who both commended her teammate’s performance throughout the Super Regional and blasted the online troll.

“She’s one of the best to put on the uniform,” Wiggins wrote on X. “Not to mention, this weekend SHE had (5-9, 3 HBP, 1 BB, 3 HR, 7RBI). Win or lose, one competitor respects another, and your sorry a– sitting behind a screen will never, and hear me when I say NEVER, accomplish what she has.”

Mic dropped!

Wiggins pointed out that productive weekend, which saw Cannon blast a trio of home runs to nearly lift her squad to an upset.

After the game, those emotions poured out as she addressed the media.

I just love this team, like [coach Trisha Ford] said – we fought til the last out… I just feel more confident in myself and every decision I make.”

A heartbreaking end to the year, but the Aggies should hold their heads high after a successful season.
