The UCONN football team fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday, 23-20. While the Huskies played at home, head coach Jim Mora insists that not everyone in attendance was rooting in their best interests.
Mora cried of collusion in his postgame press conference after the loss. He claims that refs conspired against the Huskies during a crucial moment late in contest!
The officiating crew was from the ACC, where the Demon Deacons reside.
Wake Forest found itself up 20-6 early in the second half of action, but they wouldn’t be able to put the Huskies away. UCONN battled back to get the deficit to just three points late in the fourth quarter.
On their final possession, a fourth down pass sailed wide of its intended target to effectively end the Huskies’ final drive. Wake Forest would kneel the final seconds from the clock to leave with a massive road win.
Jim Mora Jr. believes a flag should’ve been thrown on that missed connection.

A Demon Deacons defender appeared to get to the UCONN receiver early. Coach Mora thought a flag was warranted. He suggests that the ACC logo on the Wake Forest jersey caused refs to swallow their whistles.
“We’ve got to make sure we put ourselves in a position where it doesn’t come down to a play where an ACC team makes a horses— call against an Independent,” he said. “It was holding and PI… It’s on us to play better earlier, but it would sure be nice if there was a level playing field.”

It wasn’t the only controversial officiating decision of the weekend.
In a game between Georgia and Texas, refs were seen overturning a call after a raucous home crowd began throwing trash on the field. The crew decided to negate a defensive pass interference penalty that would’ve gone against the Longhorns.
Luckily for the Bulldogs, it wouldn’t impact the final outcome.
Jim Mora, meanwhile, believes his team was robbed of an opportunity to either tie or win in the final moments of action – and the referees’ ACC affiliation is to blame.
With the loss, the Huskies fell to 4-3 on the season.
