Travis Hunter made it pretty clear he thinks he’s a better candidate for the Heisman Trophy than Boise State standout Ashton Jeanty, and the running back opted to keep things classy while responding to the Colorado star’s recent comments.

Following the conclusion of Week 8 of the college football season, most sportsbooks have Ashton Jeanty tied as the odds-on favorite for the Heisman Trophy with Miami QB Cam Ward, and it’s safe to say the Boise State RB has earned that spot.

Jeanty had an absolutely absurd start to the year and has done a pretty good job brushing off concerns the pace wasn’t sustainable, as the junior leads the nation in rushing yards with 1,248 on 126 carries (a wild 9.9-yard average) and trails only Army QB Bryson Daily when it comes to total touchdowns on the ground with 17 (he’s also hauled in a single TD pass).

Based on the current odds, the Heisman Trophy picture is gearing up to be a three-way race that also involves Oregon QB Dillion Gabriel (who is sitting around +400 compared to the approximately +200 Jeanty and Ward are getting), but plenty of people would tell you Colorado’s Travis Hunter deserves to be in consideration even though most oddsmakers are putting him closer to +2000.

Last week, Coach Prime’s two-way phenom asserted he deserves more attention and hype than Jeanty due to his stellar play on both sides of the ball, and while he didn’t necessarily minimize the RB’s play, he noted “It’s not like we haven’t seen a running back that’s good” while implying it’s been a long time since college football has boasted a player like himself.

Jeanty got the chance to respond to those comments while talking with former UCF kicker Donald De La Haye (the YouTuber known as “Deestroying”), and anyone hoping for some drama will be left disappointed.

Jeanty decided to give Hunter his props, saying:

“Kudos to Travis. He’s balling for real.

He’s doing some stuff we ain’t ever seen nobody do. Personally, I don’t take no offense to it. He’s just speaking his opinion, everybody’s got an opinion.

For me, what I’ve been doing hasn’t been done in 36, 37 years. That’s something special. If I keep that up and break a record that’s been around for 36 years, I feel like you can’t really compete with that.”

Jeanty added he thinks he’d deserve the Heisman over Hunter if it was presented at the time the interview took place, and I can’t really say I disagree.
