There are plenty of people out there that dislike the New York Jets, but there are certainly none that have more disdain for them than Bill Belichick.
In case you aren’t caught up on the lore between Bill Belichick and the Jets, a quick fresher: before he was hired by the New England Patriots, Belichick was hand-picked by then-New York Jets head coach Bill Parcells to be his successor.
After officially assuming the position following Parcell’s retirement, Belichick bailed on the Jets on January 4, 2000 — the day he was set to be formally introduced as the head coach — by tendering his resignation on a napkin, writing: “I resign as HC of the NYJ.” Three weeks later, the Patriots traded a first-round pick for Belichick, and the rest is history.
Belichick’s infamous resignation from the Jets is made even more fascinating by the fact that it came just about a week before current owner Woody Johson officially bought the team, who is someone that Belichick clearly holds ill will toward as evidenced by how gleefully he danced on the Jets grave while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show this week.
“I thought Coach Saleh did a good job with that Jets team and they were a lot better on defense when he was there,” Belichick said on Monday following the Jets’ latest loss, a 37-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. “The Jets are the Jets and Woody is Woody”
“He’s an Ambassador! He’s an Ambassador Johnson! Not Woody — Ambassador Johnson!” replied a giggling McAfee, referencing the fact that Johnson served as Ambassador to the United Kingdom under former President and 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump.

Johnson is widely considered to be one of the worst owners in all of American professional sports as he’s currently overseeing the longest postseason drought in the four major American sports leagues: NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since the Rex Ryan-coached, Mark Sanchez-quarterbacked 2010 season.
