Anyone who has ever picked up a bat and ball dreams of making the big leagues. But, for Blue Jays prospect Orelvis Martinez, his dream has turned into an absolute nightmare.
Orelvis Martinez made his debut for the big league club on Friday, and it was announced he popped a positive PED test just two days later. That’s going to lead to a huge suspension.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan broke the story.
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Orelvis Martinez has been suspended 80 games for violating MLB’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Martinez, 22, is Toronto’s top hitting prospect and made his big league debut Friday.

In a statement, Martinez said he had spent the past two years trying to start a family with his girlfriend and was prescribed Rejun 50, a clomiphene tablet, over the winter after visiting a fertility clinic in his native Dominican Republic.
“We wanted to keep this matter private, even within our family, and trusted the doctor who assured us this treatment did not include performance-enhancing drugs,” Martinez said in the statement. “Therefore, I made the mistake of not disclosing this to my team or the MLBPA.
“With that said, I took full responsibility for my negligence and accepted my suspension.”
In his one game with the big league club, Martinez went 1-3 with a single. Sadly, his next major league game appears to be a few months away.
