Angel McCoughtry is an absolute legend in women’s basketball.

She was the first pick overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2009 WNBA draft. She led the Big East Conference in scoring, rebounding, and steals. She set school records for steals in a season, points in a season, points in a game, and points in a career while at Louisville. She was an All-American as a junior, a 2-time WNBA scoring champion, a 5-time WNBA All-Star, and made the WNBA 25th Anniversary Team.

And much like another women’s basketball icon, Nancy Lieberman, Angel McCoughtry has seen enough of young WNBA stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese getting bullied on the court.

In fact, the 37-year-old is so tired of it, she wants to come out of retirement and do something about it.

“I made a tweet the other day like, ‘Hey, where where are your teammates?'” McCoughtry told TMZ Sports.

“If someone’s beating up your teammate, where are you to step up for them? It’s not just Caitlin Clark’s case, Angel Reese gets pulled down by the neck and and nobody steps up to defend her, you know what I’m saying? Caitlin Clark gets pushed from behind, where is your teammate to get in somebody’s face?”

McCoughtry was just getting started.

“In the NBA, you see they’re running off the bench to step up for their teammates and that’s the problem I have as, like as a vet, you take up for your teammates no matter what,” Angel continued. “Nobody should feel like they’re on their own island. I’m gonna step up for you. Somebody gets in my teammates face. Here I am.”

Angel McCoughtry is serious about making a comeback to protect Caitlin Clark or other young players.

“I’m actually waiting to go back,” she said. “Somebody, I’m here! Call me! C’mon, I’m still dunking the basketball!”

If the Indiana Fever haven’t already made a phone call to McCoughtry, someone in their front office needs to be fired.

“I would love to play on a team that can contest for a championship or be a vet to help the young ones … like Caitlin Clark,” she added. “She needs that vet around her arm just pushing her through the season.”
