Dan Hurley is the greatest college basketball coach in the modern era and his back-to-back national titles at UConn proves that to be true. However, the 51-year-old has an opportunity to switch sports if he so chooses!
He received a new job offer just hours after signing a big contract extension with his current school.
Hurley comes from a basketball family. His father is a high school coaching legend in the northeast. He and his brother Bobby played on the Division I level. They both coach major programs today.
Despite his deep roots in hoops, Dan Hurley believes that his personality may actually be best suited for football. To say that he is passionate would be an understatement. To say that he is expressive would also be an understatement.
Hurley wears his emotions on his sleeve.

It is difficult to get 18/19-year-olds to buy into such a rigorous schedule and intense culture in any sport. It is especially hard in basketball. Football players are more willing to commit to the grind.
Thus, Hurley actually hypothesizes that he might fit better on the gridiron. His personality would better fit football guys than basketball guys.

With that being said, it doesn’t seem like Hurley is ready to make any kind of move in any direction. He recently agreed to a massive contract extension with the Huskies, even though it will pay far less than what the Los Angeles Lakers offered him. Another offer is also on the table!
UNLV head football coach Barry Odom heard Hurley’s comments during the Yankees game and presented an opportunity to join his staff.

Odom’s offer is more a joke than anything but that doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t take him if he could get him! The Runnin’ Rebels aren’t going to poach Hurley if the Lakers couldn’t poach Hurley, but it would be an interesting experiment to see if a basketball coach could find the same success in football.
