Caitlin Clark more than managed to meet the expectations that surrounded her when she made the leap to the WNBA, and she set another record on the night she wrapped up what is arguably the best rookie season in the history of the league thanks to the price a rookie card fetched at auction.

It was a bit hard to imagine Caitlin Clark was going to be able to live up to the hype after taking her talents to the WNBA following the end of her celebrated college career at Iowa, but I think it’s safe to say she was able to do exactly that after she was selected by the Indiana Fever with the first overall pick in the draft.

On Thursday, the Fever wrapped up the regular season with a loss to the Mystics to conclude a campaign where Clark set the record for the most assists in a season, the rookie record for most points and three-pointers made, and literally dozens of other accomplishments while all but assuring she’ll win Rookie of the Year honors.

The 22-year-old obviously has a very bright future ahead of her, and there are plenty of memorabilia collectors who are relying on her stardom to make some serious dough.

At the start of 2024, Clark’s 1-of-1 2022 Bowman University Superfractor set a record for the most expensive women’s basketball card ever sold when it was auctioned off for a whopping $78,000. However, that mark didn’t stand for very long.

On Thursday night, another one-of-a-kind Clark card—the “Blue Viper” Panini released as part of its “Instant WNBA Draft” collection—sparked a bidding war at an auction that was organized by Fanatics before the winner walked away with a new addition after dropping $84,000.

Clark still has a long way to go if she wants to top the record for the most expensive women’s sports card ever sold, as an autographed 2003 NetPro Serena Williams featuring a match-worn patch of clothing set the mark to beat after fetching $266,400 at an auction in 2022.
