AJ Dybantsa is the No. 1 college basketball player in the 2025 recruiting cycle. A unanimous five-star prospect, the Utah forward has garnered plenty of interest from major programs around the country.

According to analyst Jeff Goodman, the team that ultimately lands his signature will have to pay a hefty price.

Dybantsa is rated by each of the four major recruiting sites as the top player in his class. Standing 6-9 with a wingspan that reaches seven-foot, he’s on the fast track to the NBA.

The 17-year-old reclassified to start his college basketball career a season early, meaning he’ll join a roster next fall.

Dybantsa was the Gatorade Massachusetts Boys Player of the Year as a freshman at St. Sebastian’s School after averaging 19.1 points and 9.6 rebounds a night.

He later transferred to the West Coast.

Dybantsa is an athletic freak possessing both size and versatility. He can attack off the dribble or in the post, showing off a deadly mid-range game to go along with his earthquaking slam dunks.

To this point, he’s landed offers from all the major players in the sport.

247 Sports lists a plethora of programs the forward is high on, with BYU potentially topping the list. Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Kansas State, and Baylor also appear to be in the game.

He’s reportedly lined up visits to see each.

Given production and upside, AJ Dybantsa figures to be the prototypical one-and-done candidate before moving onto the NBA, though things could always change.

That said, his suitors will have to open up their checkbooks on the potential short-term rental.

Jeff Goodman says AJ Dybantsa has a high asking price.

“He’s going to get a ton of money,” said Goodman on his Field of 68 podcast. “The numbers I’ve heard are numbers I never thought I’d hear. Somewhere in the $7-9 million range is what I’m hearing right now. That number is going to be HEFTY.”

For reference, that’s more than most college basketball programs’ entire NIL budget!

Look at Arkansas, who’s also offered the youngster. The Razorbacks were able to lure John Calipari away from his head coaching job at Kentucky largely due to a $5 million annual NIL budget being backed by donors.

Goodman suggests that Dybantsa’s offer could come close to doubling that total!

Six-figure NIL deals are nothing new to the sport, which has seen recruiting asks grow substantially over the last year. Still, should numbers approach what Goodman’s hearing, Dybantsa’s agreement could be historic.

We’ll soon see which programs are open to backing up the Brinks truck in order to land his commitment. He’s scheduled to visit BYU this weekend.
