Other than the combatants themselves, we’re not sure who exactly is excited to see Conor McGregor square off with Logan Paul inside of a boxing ring. But it does appear there is an audience for the sideshow fight, which moved one step closer to happening on Tuesday.
McGregor took to Twitter to reveal that he’s agreed to the fight. He also denied rumors of a fight with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria.
“The rumors of a bout with topurio (sp) are false. I am in preliminary agreements with the Ambani family to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition in India. I have agreed. I will then seek my return to the Octagon,” McGregor wrote.
Now, whether or not the Paul talk is real is certainly up for debate. This is the first anyone had mentioned the fight taking place in India. But perhaps even more bizarre is the rumors of fight with Topuria, which McGregor seems to have made up.
Conor McGregor Is Likely Never Going To Fight In The UFC Again
McGregor last stepped foot in a UFC cage in July 2021, some 3.5 years ago. He last won a UFC fight in January of 2020, nearly five years ago. The last time he fought at featherweight came all the way back in 2015 against Jose Aldo! So unless Topuria is going up multiple weight classes, that fight is never going to happen.
In fact, the odds of McGregor ever stepping foot back into a UFC cage feel slim-to-none. He ducked Michael Chandler for multiple years. He’s ducked other challengers. It’s abundantly clear he never wants to fight again against any serious opponent.
As for boxing, Paul called out McGregor just last year.
“Conor McGregor is an average MMA fighter and a horrible boxer,” he said. “I’m gonna beat the shit out of his b—- Dillon (Danis), and then I’m gonna beat the shit out of him.”
Now he might actually get his shot. But if you are someone who wants to see that fight, I’d hold off before getting to excited.
