Kurt Warner believes that his son, EJ Warner, is the most under-recruited quarterback in college football. The former three-star recruit recently announced his decision to enter the transfer portal for the second time in three years after stops at Temple and Rice.
His father, a Super Bowl champion, two-time NFL MVP and Pro Football Hall of Famer, made a compelling case for any potential suitors when the 20-day winter window officially opens on Monday.
EJ Warner will have one year of eligibility remaining. Although he is only 10-26 as a three-year starter, his numbers are much better than his record. The rising senior has completed 60% of his passes for 8,814 yards and 58 touchdowns (with 37 interceptions) on two really bad teams. He can drop dimes in a bucket.
Now Warner is in search of a new opportunity at his third and final college football program.

Kurt cannot believe that his son is not the most sought-after signal-caller in the transfer portal and blames EJ’s height. Guys like Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel got paid a large fortune for one or two year stops at Miami and Oregon. Their stats are actually right on par with the former Rice and Temple quarterback in certain categories, as presented by the Warner family patriarch.
I fully believe if he was 2 inches taller he would be pursued by every college in country that wants a passer (even though we have 9 guys 6’1 or under who have started in NFL this year)!
Last 3 years:
1 of 2 with 3 games of 470+ yrds (Penix)
1 of 4 with 5 games of 400+ yrds (Penix, Ward, Gabriel)
1 of 9 to have 25+ starts & avg 275/game (Penix, Williams, Reed, Maye, Nix, Ward, Gabriel, Hennigan)I know I’m biased, but look at the company he keeps… pretty impressive!

Auburn, Colorado, Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida State, LSU, and Alabama are the schools most likely to consider and/or pursue a quarterback through the portal. While it seems like they might go after some bigger names like Miller Moss, Jackson Arnold and Kaidon Salter, perhaps EJ Warner would offer an equal or greater talent at a discount?
If not, there are going to be a lot of lower-profile programs in search of a one-year, plug-and-play guy while their young talent continues to develop. The son of a Hall of Famer would not be a bad stop gap!
