The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on Saturday night in a thrilling overtime matchup. One NFL bettor nearly cashed a wager with 90 to 1 odds in the process.
Unfortunately, a missed field goal that doinked off the upright ruined his chances. He was literally sick after the close call.
The bettor placed a score prediction before kickoff, guessing that the Bengals would win the contest 27-24. It appeared to be on its way to hitting when Cincinnati kicker Cade York trotted out for a 33-yard field goal attempt to break a 24-24 tie.
York was signed midway through the season following an injury to starter Evan McPherson. With the Bengals, he’d made 5 of his 6 attempts including a 22-yarder earlier in the game.
A make would’ve ended the game while making this bettor a bit richer. Instead, York’s kick bounced off the upright. The score remained tied.

Cincinnati would stop the Chargers on the ensuing possession. They wasted little time in securing the win on their next drive. Unfortunately for this gambler, the Bengals wouldn’t leave the game in their kicker’s hands this time around.
The offense drove 63 yards down the field in just five plays. A 34-yard pass from Joe Burrow to Tee Higgins set Cincy up with first and goal at the three-yard line. The duo then connected for a touchdown a play later.
Final score – Cincinnati 30. Los Angeles 24.
The $5 wager was minimal, but with +9000 odds, it would’ve paid out $450. Instead, the NFL bettor ended the night with nothing. A brutal way to head into the New Year.
