Kansas City Chiefs rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy scored the first points of Wednesday’s NFL game on Netflix. However, he was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for mimicking the Grinch on Christmas and made life harder for kicker Harrison Butker.
It was perhaps the softest flag of the entire 2024 NFL season, which says a lot because there have been quite a few questionable calls. Especially when it comes to player celebrations.
UPDATE: XAVIER WORTHY DID LIFT HIS SHIRT TO REVEAL A FAKE WEAPON. HE DID NOT MIMICK A VIOLENT GESTURE.
More from the celebration. Missed this part, the broadcast just showed this video. pic.twitter.com/rELHLqe4rr

Worthy, ran a quick wheel route out of the backfield on 2nd-and 4 from the seven-yard-line. Patrick Mahomes immediately looked his way and tossed him the ball. The 21-year-old speedster beat Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to the corner for six.

In homage to Dr. Seuss, Xavier Worthy and Hollywood Brown pretended to steal all of the presents from under the Christmas tree. They mimicked the infamous green, furry, pot-bellied, pear-shaped, snub-nosed humanoid creature with a cat-like face and a cynical personality— better known as the Grinch.
At no point did Worthy or Brown pretend to shoot a gun. At no point did they make a violent gesture. Their touchdown celebration was completely harmless. All they did was throw presents in a bag!

The No Fun League still threw a flag, and the penalty flags were already in the air before he pulled up his shirt. Xavier Worthy was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Kansas City was forced to kick a 48-yard extra point instead of a 33-yard attempt. Mahomes was not happy.

For the NFL to issue a penalty is lame. Even though the celebration might’ve been rude to the people of Whoville, it was not deserving of 15 yards. Neither did the fake gun. No fake shots were fired!
