On Christmas Day, with the world tuning in for its duo of NFL game, Netflix released the first teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2. The film will serve as a direct sequel to the iconic 1996 Adam Sandler-starring comedy, which features the beloved comedian as a amateur hockey player turned golf star.
While an official release date has not been announced, the teaser — which sees Happy Gilmore wearing his famed Boston Bruins jersey on the greens — confirms the film will release next year.
The Happy Gilmore, alongside Billy Madison, helped turned Adam Sandler into one of the definitive comedy stars of the 1990s. Check out the official teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 below.
Earlier this year, BroBible was able to exclusively reported that the 1998 U.S. Open will feature in the film, as signage for the competition was seen on set at the Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.
“It’s been almost 30 years since we last saw Happy Gilmore, the long-driving hero who won in the Tour Championship in 1996. Now, we finally get to catch up with him in a new sequel,” Netflix said when announcing the project earlier this year.
“That’s right, Adam Sandler is returning to the golf green as Happy Gilmore, and he’s bringing along a few new and familiar faces.”
Alongside Sandler as Gilmore, Happy Gilmore 2 will also see Julie Bowen reprise her role of Virginia Venit and Christopher McDonald return as the villianous Shooter McGavin.
Additional returning cast members include Allen Covert, Dennis Dugan, and Ben Still has Hal L., while Benito Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Scott Mescudi, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, and Nick Swardson have also joined the cast. Celebrities such as Travis Kelce, Eminem, and John Daly are set to cameo in the film.
Kelce was teased in the teaser trailer and got a bit clowned on, as his outfit was compared to that of an “Oppenheimer side character.”

The Happy Gilmore sequel landing at Netflix should come as no surprise given the actor’s relationship with the studio over the last decade, having starred in a bevy of their projects such as The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected), The Week Of, Murder Mystery, The Wrong Missy, Hubie Halloween, Murder Mystery 2, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, Hustle, The Out-Laws, Leo, and Spaceman.
