With the Golden State Warriors in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race and Steph Curry still playing at an MVP level, the organization is reportedly being proactive in making a move for an All-Star player prior to the trade deadline in order to perhaps give the duo of Curry and Draymond Green one more shot at an NBA title.
And two players they’re eyeing, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, are’t just All-Stars, but two of the greatest players of their generation and future Hall of Famers: Jimmy Butler and LeBron James.
During an appearance on ESPN’s Get Up! on Wednesday, December 11, Windhorst reported that the Warriors are monitoring the situations of both Butler in Miami with the Heat and LeBron in Los Angeles with the Lakers.
The Lakers currently sit 8th in the Western Conference with a 13-11 record, while the Heat are fifth in the Eastern Conference at 12-10.
“The most important names to watch between now and the February trade deadline, it isn’t just Jonathan Kaminga, it’s also Jimmy Butler down in Miami,” Windhorst reported on ESPN’s morning show Get Up! on Wednesday, December 11.
“Really since last spring, when the Heat made it clear they were not going to extend his contract, they were probably headed for an ending of the ways [sic] between the Heat and Jimmy Butler. I wouldn’t say it’s a done deal yet, but I think team are starting to kick the tires there, and look and see what it might take, and the Warriors are one of them.”
“The Warriors have been really active in trying to look for a star player, they kicked the tires on a couple of other stars over the summer. And if Jimmy Butler is available, and the Warriors feel like they need to upgrade, that could be.”
The other future Hall of Famer that the Warriors are currently monitoring is none other than LeBron James, who has been toiling in the mediocrity of the Los Angeles Lakers for a few years now.
“Who else is on their list? That’s LeBron James. I know that this is one of the most fascinating opportunities in the league — it’s a delicious scenario to think about,” Windhorst reporter.
“The Warriors have dreamed of pairing LeBron with Steph Curry and Draymond Green since last year. They made an inquiry and it got shut down last February. That was before LeBron played with Steve Kerr and Steph Curry and won the Gold Medal [at the Olympics] over the summer. So they will definitely monitor the situation. I don’t think they do anything [else] without knowing this door is locked.”

“I would be lying if I said that there isn’t been some conversations in the league, would LeBron at some point this year revisit that,” Windhorst said of the prospect of the Warriors trading for LeBron earlier this week.
LeBron is averaging 23 points, 9.1 assists and 8 rebounds per game during his 22nd season in the NBA at the age of 39 years old.
