Prisoners at the State Correctional Institution Huntingdon in Pennsylvania, where Luigi Mangione — the primary suspect in the murder of United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson — is being held apparently already have the 26-year-old’s back, as video from the facility has captured prisoners yelling messages of support for Mangione.
Luigi Mangione, 26 years old, was arrested on Monday, December 9, at a McDonald’s fast food restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania and was allegedly in possession of a gun, bullets, multiple fake IDs and cash. Magione’s arrest came following a multi-day manhunt after he allegedly shot and killed Thompson outside the Midtown Manhattan Hilton Hotel on December 4th.
Reports indicate the words “deny”, “defend” and “depose” were written on shell casings found at the scene. Mangione has been charged with the murder of Thompson in New York (in addition to another five felony counts) and with possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police in Pennsylvania.
Mangione is being held at the State Correctional Institution in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, where news crew cameras picked up audio of prisoners from inside the jail shouting messages of support for Mangione, such as “Luigi’s conditions suck!” and Free Luigi!”.
Given the media attention surrounding Mangione’s arrest and eventual trial, the video, which you can watch below, immediately went viral on social media.

Tom Dickey, Mangione’s defense attorney, said in a statement that Mangione plans to plead not guilty to the charges and that he hasn’t seen “any evidence” that Mangione is Thompson’s killer.
“I haven’t seen any evidence that they have the right guy. I haven’t seen a speck of evidence at all. They need to convince me,” Dickey told CNN earlier this week.
The murder of Thompson has sparked a national debate about the healthcare industry in the United States, with many — including comedian Bill Burr — feeling a sense of justice over the fact that CEOs, particularly in the healthcare industry, are now reckoning with how they conduct themselves. The early fervor around the case is so intense, in fact, that is could be the most “popular” criminal proceedings in the country since the O.J. Simpson murder trial in the 1990s.
