Federal U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents intercepted and seized $8.1 million worth of hard narcotics in a single bust at the Laredo Port of Entry in Texas. The massive law enforcement action took place on Friday, Jan. 24 at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo.

The seizure happened after a Customs and Border Protection officer inspected a 2003 Volvo 760 hauling a commercial shipment of industrial machinery and then referred the vehicle for secondary inspection. Using a canine team and a non-intrusive inspection system examination, CBP officers discovered a total of nearly 890 pounds of alleged methamphetamine concealed within the shipment.

The confiscated narcotics had a combined street value of $8,181,799. Homeland Security Investigations special agents are now investigating the drug seizure.

“World Trade Bridge officers successfully intercepted methamphetamine, preventing this dangerous drug substance from reaching our communities,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to public safety and securing our borders against the threats of illegal drug trafficking.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Jan. 25, over in Campo, California, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were busy seizing two loads of illegal narcotics in less than one hour. They ended up confiscating 182 pounds of methamphetamine.

The first meth seizure of 97.97 pounds when Campo Border Patrol Station agents stopped a man driving a blue Dodge minivan and discovered nine foil-wrapped packages, consistent with narcotics, hidden in a compartment of the van.

The second bust occurred less than an hour later when Border Patrol agents stopped a 22-year-old woman driving a Honda sedan with two minor children inside the vehicle. CBP officers ended up finding 80 cellophane-wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden throughout the vehicle with a total weight of 83.64 pounds.

“Two significant drug loads were taken off of our streets by our dedicated agents,” said San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel. “Thankfully, two children were also removed from a dangerous situation.”
