The Dallas Baptist baseball team was defeated by LSU in midweek play on Wednesday, 7-3. While the Patriots ultimately fell short on the scoreboard, they did have a chance to flex some insane muscle against an SEC powerhouse.

DBU launched a pair of fifth inning home runs that found the second deck in the Globe Life Field stands. Both bombs were no-doubters that jumped off the bat.

The first came from junior Grant Jay, which got the Patriots on the board after falling behind 5-0. The solo blast was quickly deposited in the left field seats allowing for a nice, easy jog around the basepath.

Jay resembles a small truck, standing 6-foot and tipping the scales at 225 pounds. The homer was the catcher’s fourth across his last three games.

Long balls are nothing new to the veteran. He’s hit 21 home runs in each of his first two seasons on campus. He’ll look to record a third consecutive 20-HR campaign in 2025.

Jay’s bomb wasn’t the last of the frame for the Patriots. Teammate Jake Bennett followed it up with an even more impressive shot a few batters later.

Bennett, like Jay, is an absolute tank. The catcher/outfielder stands 6-2 and weighs 231 pounds. He transferred into the Dallas Baptist baseball program after spending his first two seasons with San Jacinto College.

At SJC he shined, hitting .350 as a freshman before launching 18 homers as a sophomore. That power was on full display Wednesday night against LSU.

Bennett turned on the first pitch he saw in that fifth inning at-bat, sending it 443 feet in the opposite direction. The two-run blast cut the Patriots’ deficit in half midway through the contest.

Bennett celebrated as he made his way down the first base line. The slugger flexed a set of massive forearms for his dugout before taking his jog.

The home run was Bennett’s second in his last three games. He seems to be getting settled into his new lineup after making the leap to DBU.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, the bombs weren’t enough to land a win. LSU tacked on two more runs later in the matchup to again widen the gap. The Tigers improved to 8-1 on the year while Dallas Baptist fell to 6-2.
