Jerry Jones is in New Orleans for the Super Bowl even though the Dallas Cowboys failed to make the playoffs. He cannot believe they did not make the NFL championship game after paying Dak Prescott.
That makes one!
Jones spoke with Dianna Russini prior to the NFL Honors award ceremony on Thursday night. The 82-year-old owner praised himself for his decisions as general manager of the Cowboys. Seriously. He genuinely thinks Dallas’ roster was good enough to compete with the big dogs for a title.

Jones might actually be the only person who thinks this way. Most NFL fans saw the writing on the wall.
Prescott and CeeDee Lamb received pay raises during the offseason but their individual negotiations dragged on to an extent that it became detrimental to the team. Jones also claimed the Cowboys were “all-in” and then allowed Tony Pollard, Dante Fowler, Tyron Smith, Dorance Armstrong, Stephon Gilmore and Tyler Biadasz to walk. He replaced them with Eric Kendricks and Ezekiel Elliott.
In response to the criticism of his decisions, Jones told Russini that he will not answer to “some journalist” and refused to concede any admission of wrongdoing. The disconnect is mind-boggling.
To explain the lack of spending on additional free agents, Jones blamed the contracts he gave to Prescott and Lamb. Apparently, because of those two, Dallas was unable to afford other weapons.
And in that same breath, Jerry Jones questioned why his team did not make the Super Bowl. His confusion was genuine too! It is truly something that does not make sense to him.
He does not understand how signing Dak Prescott did not result in a roster that can compete with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs or Saquon Barkley and the Eagles. He is the only one who cannot figure it out.
If Jerry Jones feels this way about 2024/25, 2025/26 is going to be even more of a surprise.
