Kentucky bounced back from a frustrating college basketball loss at Ole Miss on Tuesday with a statement win over South Carolina on Saturday. Everything went right for the Wildcats except for a technical foul charged to Brandon Garrison during the second half.
He pretended to shoot his opponent in the head with a finger pistol.
Garrison, a sophomore, transferred to play for Mark Pope during the offseason after playing his freshman season of college basketball at Oklahoma State. The 6-foot-10 forward continues to be an important depth piece off of the bench for Kentucky. He caught fire against the Gamecocks.
Garrison finished with 15 points in 21 minutes on 7-of-8 shooting. His lone three-pointer of the afternoon pushed the Wildcats’ lead to 13 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.
South Carolina dared him to shoot and Garrison knocked down the triple. However, the SEC officiating crew hit him with a technical foul for his celebration. Kentucky fans were furious at first. It seemed soft.
Let it fly, @brandonGarriso

Upon further review, it was rightfully deserved. Garrison raised a fake gun directly to the head of Nick Pringle and pulled the imaginary trigger.
Oh he blew his head off? lol ok, fair enough with the technical. pic.twitter.com/TE7YwL9jq4

That won’t fly. Can’t do that!
Brandon Garrison often pulls out the finger guns. Shooting fake weapons up into the air will normally get a pass, even though college basketball has also cracked down in parallel to college football and the NFL. To put an opponent in the sights and fire is just one step too far. That will result in a technical foul (assuming the officials catch it) every single time.
Fortunately, the tech was not costly for Garrison or the Wildcats. They moved to 16-7 with a 23-point win and their fake gun-shooting forward finished as the team’s second-leading scorer. Pope will probably look the other way on this one and give him a pass. Can’t happen again!
