Yankees Welcome Nestor Cortes Back To New York With Three Home Runs On First Three Pitches

Nestor Cortes may not blame himself for the New York Yankees losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2024 World Series, but his former Yankees teammates sure seem to. Cortes left New York for the Milwaukee Brewers as part of a trade for closer Devin Williams in the offseason. The former MLB All-Star made his 2025 season debut on Saturday against his old team, and let’s just say things didn’t go according to plan.

Cortes allowed not one, not two, but three consecutive home runs on three straight pitches to begin the game. First it was Paul Goldschmidt who began the home run barrage. Then Cody Bellinger followed with one of his own before Aaron Judge got in on the party to give New York a seemingly inconceivable 3-0 lead on just three pitches.

Both Goldschmidt and Judge’s home runs eclipsed the 400-foot mark, with the latter going an estimated 468 feet, the longest home run on the young MLB season. But the Yankees didn’t stop there, either. After Cortes finally got a pair of outs from Jazz Chisholm and Anthony Volpe, Austin Wells joined the fun with a solo shot of his own.

Cortes then walked the next two batters before eventually getting out of the inning with a strikeout of Trent Grisham. But the onslaught leads fans to believe that New York didn’t appreciate Cortes’ bizarre comments about the Yankees being the better team in the 2024 World Series.

“So people can say it slipped away from us, people can say we made a lot of mistakes, which we did. But at the end of the day, we were the better team,” Cortes said. “I see it that way, and I’m sure everybody in that clubhouse sees it that way. The reality (could have been) going back to LA leading 3-2.”

Sure, Nestor. And giving up three home runs on three pitches was also a fluke, right?
