Josh Allen is one of the many NFL players who know their way around a golf course, but he was obviously at a disadvantage during a recent match where he faced off against Phil Mickelson. However, he was able to get a temporary edge after messing with Lefty’s rangefinder during the round.
It’s hard not to be jealous of the many professional athletes who’ve devoted their lives to a sport that isn’t golf but are nonetheless more than capable of holding their own on the course.
Tony Romo and Steph Curry are two of the most notable examples, but Josh Allen certainly fits the bill as well; the Bills quarterback is currently listed as a 3.5 handicap and gets plenty of practice in during the offseason at the course he belongs to near the beach house he owns in his native California.
Of course, he still has nothing on guys who play golf for a living. That obviously includes Phil Mickelson, who was paired up with YouTube golfer Grant Horvat in a recent installment of the latter’s 2 vs. 2 series where Allen joined forces with Jon Rahm for a showdown at La Jolla Country Club in San Diego.
Allen needed all of the help that he could get when you consider he was the only member of the foursome who doesn’t devote the bulk of their time to working on their golf game. However, he took advantage of the casual nature of a match where they were all allowed to use rangefinders by sabotaging the opposing team.
There may not be a significant distance between a single meter and a single yard, but the extra three inches in the former adds up when you’re trying to dial in a lengthy iron shot from the fairway—a reality Allen took advantage of when he switched Mickelson’s rangefinder from yards to meters after comandeering it before watching Lefty and Horvat both leave their ensuing shots short.

Horvat eventually realized something was amiss before too much damage could be done, but you have to respect Allen’s ingenuity.
Mickelson and Horvat were down a hole after wrapping up the front nine but were able to rally and tie things up by the time the back nine wrapped up, and they prevailed over Allen and Rahm following a two-hole playoff.
That wasn’t the only win Horvat walked away with on the day, as his playing partner also hooked him up with some equity in his For Wellness brand.
