New York Yankees star Jazz Chisholm lost his cool during a Tuesday night matchup against the Kansas City Royals. The infielder threatened Maikel Garcia after a hard tag on a stolen base attempt.

The play seemed relatively harmless, but it rubbed Chisholm the wrong way. A well-documented history with his Royals counterpart played a role.

The play occurred in the top of the sixth inning with the Yankees leading 5-1. Chisholm smacked a one-out double in his third at-bat. He swiftly stole third base on reliever Taylor Clarke.

The throw was close, but Chisholm was able to beat it. Garcia attempted to make the tag before he corralled the ball, which rolled into foul territory after the fact.

Maikel Garcia’s swipe hit Jazz Chisholm on the top of the helmet. He immediately turned to an umpire with a threat directed at the third baseman.

“I’m gonna tell you one more time, if he tags me like that again, I’m gonna smack the f— out of him,” lip readers deciphered. He was not happy!

After the game, Chisholm was asked about the play, as well as his ensuing reaction. He recalled a history of issues with Garcia from past meetings with Kansas City.

“I feel like every time we have a problem, it’s always been him,” he said. “That’s the only reason I was so frustrated. To see that he didn’t even have the ball from the way that he tagged me, it’s just – I didn’t like it.”

He was also asked about being labeled a “villain” by Royals fans last year. “I still like it,” he said with a smile.

Jazz Chisholm was booed when walking to the plate in Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday due to previous comments made during last year’s ALDS.

“We’re still gonna win [the series],” he said after dropping that playoff matchup. “They just got lucky.” He was right. The Yankees eliminated the Royals two games later.

Chisholm and Garcia got into during Game 4 of that ALDS set causing both benches to empty. Ironically, it came on a play where Garcia was tagged hard at second base as the Yankees turned a double play.

New York won Tuesday night’s contest against the Royals, 10-2. The two teams will continue their regular season series on Wednesday in Kansas City.

Emotions could be high. Expect a few more boo birds from the home crowd when Chisholm steps into the batter’s box.
