Caitlin Clark was thrilled to see Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White pick up a technical foul. The biggest star in the WNBA plans to spend a portion of her five-figure bonus to cover the fine!
I cannot imagine this has ever happened before in the history of the league.
White returned to the Indiana Fever as head coach during the offseason. She and the Reigning Rookie of the Year already had a rapport so it was a great fit. The goal, of course, is to win a WNBA championship.
Although there is still a lot of season left, the Fever are currently in position to make the playoffs out of the Eastern Conference and they only seem to get better as the year goes on. That includes a dominant one-sided victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday night. Indiana won by 27 without Clark.
White said after the game that she felt slighted by the officials throughout the entire evening. She could no longer bite her tongue during the fourth quarter and uncrossed her arms to plead her case to the nearest referee. Her outburst led to an inconsequential technical foul.
Caitlin Clark loved it. The 23-year-old, who is currently out with a groin injury, stood up from the bench to flex and clap until Stephanie White came over for a high-five.

This was White’s second technical of the season. She also picked one up in support of Aari McDonald last month.

A player’s first three technical fouls each result in a $200 fine in the WNBA. The fine increases to $400 for the next three. The fine jumps to $800 after the seventh.
I do not know for certain whether coaches are fined on the same scale but a fine is imminent for White’s technical foul on Thursday. Except she won’t have to pay. Clark is going to give her the money.
Steph White said earning the technical foul was done to make a point.

"Caitlin (Clark) says she's got me though," White said, smiling. "She just got a bonus." pic.twitter.com/2tHnD4GL7J
The Indiana Fever won the first-ever Commissioner’s Cup earlier this week. Every player on the team will get a bonus of $30,000— which is actually more than the bonus for winning the WNBA championship. Caitlin Clark is going to use a few hundred dollars of her bonus to pay for Stephanie White’s technical.
