New York City Woman Trapped In Tight Parking Spot: Her Escape Proves Suburu Drivers Are Superior

New York City Parking Spot Escape Viral TikTok

To drive a car in New York City requires the utmost skill behind the wheel. Parking might as well be a competitive sport.

A combination of infrastructure (or lack thereof), congestion, weather and culture creates some of the most challenging conditions in the United States when it comes to operating a motor vehicle.

However, as we learned from a recent viral video on TikTok, we should never doubt the talent of a woman in a Suburu. She got the whole community involved in what became the most impressive 20+ turn I have ever seen!

Driving and parking in New York City is chaos.

As of early 2025, there are more than 2.2 million cars registered within the five boroughs of New York City. Unlike the sprawling suburbs of New England, the city has a limited street grid.

New York City Driving Hard

The infrastructure was mostly built before the existence of cars. And to further that issue, many streets in New York City also serve bus- and taxi-only lanes, bike lanes, and commercial loading zones.

The amount of space for pedestrian vehicles is very limited. That creates overcrowded streets and constant gridlock.

New York City Traffic

Driving is one thing and parking is another. By the numbers, roughly 45% of households own a car in New York City. Most people don’t. And of those who do, even less have a driveway and/or garage.

Thus, the majority of car-owners park on the street. It can take up to 30 minutes to find a spot— if not more.

Every inch matters when there are only so many inches!

You cannot drive a car in New York City if you cannot parallel park. They go hand-in-hand.

The lack of space requires drivers to utilize every single inch and show no mercy. That often leads to some extremely tight park jobs, like this woman named Nicole.

She recently wiggled her way out of what is being labeled as the “tightest parking spot in NYC” with help from a nice man who stopped to direct. A video of her remarkably impressive 20+ point turn racked up more than 10 million views on TikTok.

As someone who grew up in the greater New York City area, I am extremely impressed by Nicole’s feat. I wouldn’t have even tried. I would’ve just called an Uber and left my car in its spot until I eventually had enough space to get out. There’s no way I would have the patience.

Nicole is a legend.

People who watched the viral TikTok video were in awe of her ability to work her way out of the tight spot. They also appreciate how the guys who helped her were so kind.

“Never underestimate a woman in a Subaru,” Miranda said.

“I love that the men didn’t do it in a condescending way, they loved seeing her get out of there unscathed,” commented Lindsay Glover. “I love to hear the strangers being so supportive,” Hannah Marie agreed.

Maor said that she would “just start crying.” Jacinda “would have left her car eternally.” Katie “would’ve raged.”

Kaitlyn K had a very similar experience. The New York City police was there to witness her attempt to leave the spot and “he shrugged and said ‘they’re called bumpers for a reason.'”

Needless to say, this kind of thing happens multiple times a day all across the five boroughs. Nicole was one of the few people brave enough to wiggle her way out. Kudos to her!
