CeeDee Lamb has yet to take a snap this preseason with the Dallas Cowboys. He was inactive during Game 1 against the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite being sidelined, he still managed to receive a penalty during the exhibition contest due to a collision with an official. He was actually punished twice on the same play!
Lamb is the top receiving threat on the Cowboys roster. He’s fresh off his third consecutive season with more than 100 catches and 1,100 yards.
Dallas opted to hold its superstar out of action in the preseason debut. It did not shield him from contact.

During the second quarter of the game, with Dallas trailing 14-0, an official made accidental contact with Lamb on the sidelines.
The referee was tracking a play down the field. Lamb was standing in a restricted area. The collision sent both men crashing to the ground.
Initially, it might’ve been a bit of a scare seeing the team’s star player get leveled unsuspectingly. He was able to laugh it off after getting back to his feet.
Lamb later reposted the video on his Instagram story to provide a chuckle to his followers.
While both parties were okay after the collision, the receiver would end up being hit twice by the officiating crew. After being drilled, he was penalized.
Why did Lamb get a penalty?
“It’s a sideline interference. CeeDee Lamb was standing in the restricted white border area, which is our area to officiate the game,” said referee Alex Moore.
“The official on the play was focused solely on doing his job and he ran into CeeDee Lamb, who was standing in that restricted area. That’s what happened. And with that contact, it’s an automatic foul.”
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer took no offense to the call. Lamb had no argument either.
“I hope the guy’s OK. They said he’s OK, the official that he ran into, but we have to be better than that,” Schottenheimer said. “CeeDee knows better. We know better.”
Thankfully, the situation wasn’t worse. Lamb is okay. The penalty came in the preseason. No harm, no foul.
We can expect the wideout to remain a little closer to the Dallas Cowboys bench when not on the football field moving forward.
