Italian Volleyball Star Put Americans On Blast After Just Three Months At The University Of Nebraska

Virginia Adriano Nebraska Volleyball Italy

Virginia Adriano did not know much about the United States before she moved to Nebraska to play college volleyball. It has been quite the transition from Italy.

Fortunately, veteran teammate Andi Jackson has helped her to get acclimated.

The differences between professional volleyball and college volleyball create a number of new challenges. Culture shock is also very real.

Who is Virginia Adriano and where does she come from?

The 21-year-old hitter grew up in Turin, Italy and played on the highest level of professional volleyball in her home country as the starting oppo for Bergamo in Serie A1.

Adriano averaged 2.39 kills per set and finished eighth in the league with a hitting percentage of .385. She also won a gold medal at the European Championships a member of the Italian U23 National Team.

In something of an unexpected move, Virginia Adriano decided to leave the professional ranks to play college volleyball at the University of Nebraska. The Cornhuskers expect to compete for a national title in 2025 and this latest addition adds yet another strong arm to the lineup.

There is still a learning curve!

College volleyball in the United States looks very different than Serie A1. All of the intricate details of the game require Adriano to adjust.

The libero does not serve in Italy, for one. There are a lot more substitutions. Tempo is much faster.

Adriano knew there was going to be some microdifferences. She did not expect the big ones.

Not only did Virginia Adriano have to relearn a new style of volleyball, the first-year college player already got to play in front of the two largest crowds of her career while in Nebraska. Lincoln goes all out for Huskers volleyball!

The coaching staff loves what they have seen from their Italian oppo thus far.

Nebraska volleyball’s new Italian star put Americans on blast.

Junior middle blocker Andi Jackson has been the de facto tour guide for Virginia Adriano over the last few months. She has helped the Italian national to get comfortable in the United States.

Jackson has been impressed by Adriano’s willingness to try most things. However, her dislike of the butter at Texas Roadhouse was a letdown.

Chick-Fil-A, on the other hand, was a big hit!

She also enjoys ranch dressing, which Americans apparently put on everything.

As for the people and the culture, Adriano finds the people of Lincoln to be extremely nice. The cleanliness of the city itself is another small detail that also stands out from her time in America thus far.

Needless to say, Virginia Adriano is coming right along! The Italian opposite hitter found her groove at the University of Nebraska and continues to get better at the collegiate style of volleyball with each new day.
