‘College GameDay’ Draws Ire From Viewers After Making Major Change To Iconic Picks Segment

For a number of college football fans, waking up and watching ESPN “College GameDay” is an essential part of the full Saturday experience. But things are changing in the “College GameDay” world, and not all the changes are for the better.

For one, longtime host Lee Corso announced his goodbye to the show during Week 1, which was actually the most-watched episode of “College GameDay” in the show’s history.

But on Saturday, the show introduced another new change, and it’s not one that fans are very happy about.

‘College GameDay’ Is Now Making Picks Against The Spread

While fans watch the show for a number of different reasons, the most popular segment is always at the end when the hosts make picks on several games scheduled for that day.

There is nothing as iconic in the “College GameDay” world as Lee Corso hitting one of his co-hosts with a “not so fast, my friend!” or a “closer than the experts think.”

But now that’s gone, not only because Corso is gone, but because the hosts are no longer picking the winners of each game.

Instead, Saturday’s episode of the show featured each of the hosts and guest picker Candace Parker, picking games against the spread, and viewers are NOT happy about it.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that ESPN made this switch, given that the company has its own online sportsbook, ESPN Bet. But it does feel extremely gross, even as someone who dabbles in sports betting.

While sports betting isn’t inherently wrong, it feels as if it has seeped into every single corner of the sports-watching experience, and it’s undeniably made the experience worse.

This is just the new normal, I guess. But that doesn’t mean that people have to like it.
