When it comes to blind dates, almost everyone has a horror story. Since folks usually meet up somewhere neutral like a restaurant, it can be easy to escape an uncomfortable situation. You can either simply leave mid-dinner without looking back, wait until you’ve said your goodbyes and block their number, or—if they look nothing like their pictures—pretend you never saw them in the first place and sneak out before they see you.

One woman, however, didn’t have the privilege of escaping her blind date after things didn’t go as expected. Why? Her blind date was, in fact, a “blindcation.” In other words, instead of meeting up with the guy for the first time over dinner, she took a vacation to see him. Her story will more than likely deter anyone from ever doing that.

What Happened On This Blindcation?

In a five-part saga on TikTok, Kels (@whoelse561) shares the blindcation from hell she endured more than a decade ago. According to her, her friends set her up with a guy who went to her college. They Skyped regularly, and she had seen his photos on social media, so she felt comfortable enough to fly to Atlanta to meet him. She had friends there, so she figured if she felt uncomfortable, she could stay with them.

Once she got to the airport, Kels says she was excited for her weekend with him. That’s when she laid eyes on the guy. “’Oh no,’” Kels recalls thinking.

Her date looked “handsome” on Skype, she says, but had a receding hairline and was 20 pounds heavier in real life. Since she only saw his face while video-chatting, she didn’t expect this appearance.

The man excitedly came up to her, hugged and kissed her, which made Kels uncomfortable, as this was their first time meeting. At his place, the guy revealed he had bought 9 bottles of white wine after hearing that’s what she drinks and “a pound” of marijuana.

“What is this guy planning? What does he think we’re gonna be doing?” Kels asks.

Day 1: They Go To Dinner

Kels says while at dinner, he kept making “misogynistic microaggressions” at her that weren’t obvious but slowly became more apparent. When it was time to leave, she asked the server to box up her leftovers so she could take them home.

Apparently, that offended him.

“‘I could just order you another meal. You don’t need to take home leftovers. I’m not poor,’” the man allegedly told her. “I didn’t know that anyone felt that way about food.”

At this point, Kels didn’t want to be around him anymore, so she says she asked one of her friends if she could stay with her. Her friend said she would be at her boyfriend’s, so Kels was stuck sleeping over at her date’s place. When she offered to sleep on the couch, the man insisted they snuggle on his bed. They did so all night, so Kels says she “barely got any sleep.”

Day 2: She Books A Flight Home

The next day, Kels says she woke up not feeling well and had a “wave of anxiety and panic.” While at breakfast, she says she passed out in the restaurant bathroom and woke up to the servers fanning her face. They wanted to call an ambulance, but the guy told her he’d “handle” it, so they went back to his place, where they watched “The Office” all day. She was glad of this, so she didn’t have to interact with him much.

At night, they went to see a movie, for which Kels was again happy that she didn’t have to talk to him. However, the man would not stop leaning into her and trying to snuggle. She says she got fed up and snuck out to call her mom to tell her how badly her blindcation was going. Begging her mom to book a ticket for the first flight back to Florida the next day, Kels says she felt comfortable enough going back to his place knowing she’d be out of there in the morning.

That night, Kels says she decided to tell him that she was leaving and used the excuse of what happened to her that morning as a reason.

“’I’m not feeling well. I just want to go home,’” Kels recalls saying. After some pushback and questioning on his end, Kels says he finally accepted that she was leaving. Despite her flight being at 11am, Kels lied and said it’s at 9 so she that she could leave as quickly as possible.

Day 3: Trying To Go Home

He ended up figuring it out the next morning, however, when she mentioned that her flight is on Delta. When he confronted her about Delta not having a 9am flight, Kels gaslit him, telling him he planned a great weekend, only for her to ruin it. He backtracked, saying they could still save the weekend, but Kels stood her ground. In the end, she ended up flying home just after just one day with him.

But that’s not where her story ended.

Kels arrived home in Florida to Facebook and text messages from the guy. She reads them to her viewers in her “finale,” aka her fifth TikTok video about the blindcation from hell.

His messages range from being self-deprecating and acknowledging his “odd behavior” to demanding she message him back. He continuously kept messaging her throughout the day and into the night until she finally asked him to leave her alone.

Viewers Are Appalled At His Behavior

Several folks felt for Kels, and one even said he needed a restraining order. In a comment, Kels mentioned she was interested at first because he got “perfect” scores on his SATs, so she figured he was smart and “put together.”

One viewer clocked the man’s behavior as “anxious attachment style.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, “An anxious attachment style is an insecure attachment style that’s characterized by a strong desire for meaningful relationships, a fear of abandonment and rejection, and a high need for reassurance and support.”

The man’s behavior does appear to be in line with the characteristics of that attachment style.
