NASCAR Star Austin Dillon Drains Improbable Hole-In-One At Course Designed By Gary Player

While the playoffs didn’t go exactly the way that NASCAR Cup Series driver Austin Dillon had hoped, he is at least finding success in other sports.

The 35-year-old heir to Richard Childress Racing was eliminated after the opening round of the postseason after qualifying via a shocking victory at Richmond. But prior to this week’s second-round race at Kansas, Dillon, his brother (and fellow Cup Series driver) Ty, and his father decided to hit the links.

The trio headed to Missouri to play the Mountain Top Course at Big Cedar Lodge. The 13-hole, par-3 course was designed in part by Hall of Famer Gary Player, and Dillon made a memory that he will never forget.

Dillon took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal that he made a hole-in-one on the course’s 10th hole. But that’s not all. Dillon then said that his father proceeded to make an ace just three holes later on hole No. 13.

While playing a Par 3 course, many of which are set up to filter balls toward the hole, changes the calculus a bit, the odds of two different golfers in the same foursome making a hole-in-one in the same round are incredibly slim.

Austin Dillon Is Set To Play A Big Role In NASCAR’s Future

While things are going great for Dillon off the track, they’ve been a bit more dicey on it. Dillon currently drives for Richard Childress Racing, the same team he has driven for his entire Cup Series career, which is owned by his grandfather, Richard Childress.

The team has struggled of late, and Dillon and his brother have attempted to take a larger role in the day-to-day operations of the team.

“We get into arguments to the point of frustration,” Dillon said of he and his 80-year-old grandfather. “It’s very hard when he’s your grandfather to have an argument with him because you don’t want to argue about it.

“There’s certain directions we have to go to move this boat forward, right? I’m constantly pushing him. My brother has stepped in now and trying to help as well. Between the two of us, we want to try to take some of the load off of him as we go.”

At some point, Dillon is expected to take over operations of the team completely, making him a major player in the future of the sport as a whole. Until that point, though, he’s free to continue to hit the links and hopefully add to his hole-in-one tally in the future.
